My Unsolicited Opinion on the New Worlds Anthem ft. New Jeans
People aren't talking about the Worlds Anthem Enough and I won't have it!

People just aren’t talking about this masterpiece enough. I know, this review of GODS is uber fuckin’ late. But you know, it is what it is. Work and stuff.
Anyway, the new League of Legends Worlds anthem just dropped and it hit me right where it mattered. Honestly, I’ve been disengaged from league for far too long. I hit gold early in the season and stopped playing.
But I digress. The recent music video reminded me why I fell in love with the game in the first place. Just a few days ago Rachelle (my girlfriend) was raving about a confirmed League x New Jeans collab, but I didn’t know that it was for the worlds anthem.
Storytelling: 10/10

The music video starts in a high school, with a young Deft watching a young Faker from afar. This clearly recalls last year’s ‘Last Dance’ matchup between the GOAT and the bot lane legend.
The music video follows the parallelism between the two storied careers, showcasing Faker’s early victories and Deft’s slower yet similarly significant rise to fame. The way they highlighted the two titans’ paths was movingly dramatic and overwhelmingly nostalgic.
And true to every worlds anthem fashion, the music video also featured some great cameos that added to the main protagonist’s (Deft’s) journey. GODS featured Keria and Meiko, both of whom started as his trusted supports (Meiko in EDG and Keria in DRX).

Riot’s choice of showcasing how these two supports ultimately became his enemies on his road to the championship was a masterclass in storytelling.
As a former Fnatic follower, I was also emotional to see Rekkless featured in Deft’s story. Rekkless was once touted to be his western counterpart way back in season five as they were seen as AD carries of equal skill. Rekkless and Fnatic eventually went on to eliminate Deft and EDG in a matchup for the ages.
Flawless storytelling all throughout.
Music: 10/10

Rachelle loves New Jeans — and I’m beginning to understand why.
Now, I don’t claim to be a fan of K-Pop or New Jeans. But to say I’m not familiar with them would be a lie. New Jeans and their songs are staples in our road trips to Cainta and I sometimes find myself singing to the English parts of ‘Attention’ or ‘Hype Boy.’
However, there was a side to New Jeans and their vocals that shone through in GODS. It was a mature, challenging, youthfully determined vibe that I’d never heard from them before. It could just be the theme of the music that’s often never seen in their material, but I AM LOVING IT.
I’m sure you already know their stuff, probably much more than I do but here are some of their material I recommend listening to:
Video: 7/10
Of the three primary elements, I think the video has the most room for improvement. But don’t get me wrong, a 7 is still a high rating for me. If 5 is average, 7 is still above average.
Compared to the previous videos for the Worlds anthems, there certainly are others that provide a more visually exciting experience. Who’d forget the classics like RISE or IGNITE?
The element that really struck me was how Deft’s jerseys changed as he moved from team to team. It helped the audience understand the gravity of having to face his former teammates, Keria and Meiko, in opposing uniforms.
Overall

Overall, it was a highly nostalgic and emotional experience.
It certainly reinvigorated my determination to play on the rift once more and perhaps even invite my duos of old for another try at reaching higher divisions.
Although it might take some scheduling gymnastics because we’re all working full time now and some of the game buds even have health issues now haha. Ah, father time remains unbeaten.
I was able to bond with Rachelle with it and she’s even considered playing again. She’s just crazy for anything New Jeans, apparently. Thank you Rito. HAHAHAHA
